PowWow 2009 – Take Flight

Will tried everything to get to heaven.  He bought a rocket, a balloon, even a time machine.  Will heard about the Roman Road and went back in time to Rome to try and find the way.  Nothing worked until he listened to his good friend, Bubba, and the old timer from the past.  Nothing worked, that is, until he found Jesus Christ.   Now these characters are fictitious, but they came to life each night at PowWow as part of the pageant to lead boys to Christ.  Speaker Rev. Norm Hewett, (Pastor for Child Development, The Rock Family Worship Center, Huntsville) built on the drama that was presented with powerful and fun praise and worship and excellent messages.  All of this made an impact as boys and men flooded the altars each night.

PowWow showed an increase this year with over 400 in attendance, approximately 100 more than last year.  The zip line continues to be everyone’s favorite activity; however, the 30+ outposts in attendance also enjoyed the 22-rifle shoot, outpost racers, the swimming hole, tomahawk and knife throw, etc.  It was a fun time.

Jim Dobbins last PowWow as the Alabama District Director will be a memorable one for him.  He was recognized by the Alabama District for his hard work and accomplishments with Royal Rangers over the last five years.  Rev. Otis Hughes presented Commander Dobbins with a plaque as recognition of his outstanding service to this district.  Jim also received the annual Lone Eagle Leadership Award from the Creek Chapter of the Frontiersmen Camping Fellowship (FCF) for his positive leadership over the years.  Commander Dobbins has been a positive influence in Alabama Royal Rangers throughout the years.  It is only fitting that he be honored in this way as he steps down as Alabama’s leading Ranger.  Jim is far from finished with the Royal Rangers ministry; however, his new focus will be on his local outpost.  God Bless you Jim.

PowWow 2009 ended with some exciting presentations.  Three names were drawn from PowWow attendees and these Rangers took home a shiny new bicycle.  You should have seen the smiles on their faces.  And lastly, the big trophies and medals that lined the porch of the headquarters building were presented.  First, second, and third places were recognized for all of the competition activities.  There was a lot of celebration.  Things really got exciting when the “Best Outposts” of PowWow were recognized.

First Place – Outpost 128, First Assembly of God (Muscle Shoals)

Second Place – Outpost 48, The Rock Family Worship Center (Huntsville)

Third Place – Outpost 163, First Assembly of God (Ashland)

Great job everyone.  PowWow was a huge success with eternal impact.  Praise the Lord.

John Robinson (Outpost 182 – Weatherly AG, Huntsville)
